The Nonprofit Alliance of Bermuda hosted a forum with five candidates in the 2025 General Election: Alexa Lightbourne from the Progressive Labour Party (PLP), John Seymour from the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA), Omar Dill from the Free Democratic Movement (FDM), and independents Juanae Crockwell and Ci’re Bean. The forum was an opportunity for new candidates to share their commitments and solutions to addressing community needs to over 50 nonprofit leaders and social sector stakeholders.
The forum offered a platform with an audience of invested guests from across the Third Sector to hear from candidates, new to the political arena, on a range of socio-economic issues that impact our community. The forum was moderated by Dr Claudette Fleming, a seasoned nonprofit leader and experienced commentator. The discussion was grounded in some of the findings of the Nonprofit Alliance’s whitepaper released in July 2024, which documented many problematic socio-economic trends in our community, and also featured submitted questions from its membership.
Nonprofit Alliance of Bermuda, Executive Director, Dr Nicola Paugh stated, “We organized this event on behalf of Bermuda’s nonprofits, our members, social sector stakeholders, and the communities they serve. The forum offers an opportunity to understand the candidates’ commitments to addressing Bermuda’s social issues. Like many sectors of Bermuda, nonprofit professionals understand the importance of the balance required in addressing such critical matters as paying down our debt, investing in our islands infrastructure, and remaining a competitive business jurisdiction, while also meeting community needs. We are excited to hear the views of candidates on Thursday, as we continue to foster and champion an environment of mutual accountability in meeting the needs of our community”.
