Nonprofit Alliance has a legacy focus and commitment to advocacy. Its hallmark success was the creation of the National Children’s Agenda. This effort to drive collective campaigning continued with our 2022 Nonprofit Collective Impact Awareness Campaign designed to improve public perceptions of nonprofits. A renewed collective effort, Third Sector Spotlight, was also launched in June 2025 to further promote the value and impact of the nonprofit sector.

The hope for these advocacy efforts is twofold: to improve public perceptions of and engagement with nonprofits and to contribute to policy and practice changes that support nonprofit sustainability and a better community. Other advocacy initiatives have included:

Corporate Income Tax (CIT) Advocacy: Our Whitepaper, Corporate Income Tax and the Historic Opportunity for Social Investment, was published in July 2024 and submitted to Premier Burt and the Tax Reform Commission (TRC). A meeting was held with the TRC as well as the Minister of Social Development and Seniors to discuss the paper and its recommendations.

Living Wage: Our Executive Director is participating as a member of the Wage Commission, and is the Deputy Chair of the group, which is looking to implement a globally accepted methodology for setting a living wage.

Automation, Digitisation, and Enhancement of Charities Registrar Reporting: We continue to raise awareness with key stakeholders of the importance of the automation, digitisation, and enhancement of data being collected by the Registry General’s charities team. This included lobbying for the expansion of data to be collected by the Registrar.

Election 2025 Advocacy: We hosted a forum with five candidates in the 2025 General Election: Alexa Lightbourne from the Progressive Labour Party (PLP), John Seymour from the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA), Omar Dill from the Free Democratic Movement (FDM), and independents Juanae Crockwell and Ci’re Bean. The forum was an opportunity for new candidates to share their commitments and solutions to addressing community needs to over 50 of our members.
